MICHAEL GALEAZZI (Tutster) has been playing bass since his teens, but it took
a couple of years of a psychology degree to convince him that bass was the final frontier.

Playing in local Sydney bands and taking lessons from bass gurus in the late 1980s led Michael to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Jazz programme. After graduating, the next few years were spent as a sideman in groups playing and recording a variety of genres, from world music fusion to funk/pop/rock to jazz and even music theatre.

Pivotal to his development as a player was the formation of his own group THE JAVA QUARTET, a combo playing contemporary improvised music which became a vehicle for his own compositions. Michael has written for and produced four albums and the group has garnered much critical acclaim, not the least being for a performance at the 1997 Montreaux Jazz Festival.

But it was a serendipitious meeting at a video shoot that brought Michael to Karma County. Having been hired to mime double bass for Brendan Gallagher's solo project, one "Sheriff of Karma County" was delighted to discover that the bass player could actually play. An invitation to his studio was the result and the rest, as they say, is history.
