THE SINGLES

Told You So | Good Things Come To Me Now | This Is Not The Real World

OLANA was an ARIA AWARD NOMINEE for BEST INDEPENDENT ALBUM for the year 1998.
The album was also TRIPLE J ALBUM OF THE WEEK.

This Was the second release on the now defunct TWA records. The company pulled out all stops releasing three singles, all with clips. There were a limited number of singles printed, making them rare collectors items. The single covers and the album are a matching set with the radiating light motif common to all the artwork. If you own a set be sure to keep good care of them.

Dark Was The Night

I Took You Name In Vain 3:27

This song, the opener to the album, has the smallest drum sound known to man (which was the style at the time) and a lush production with Eastern sounding riff bouzouki, castanets and strings. About the time honoured tradition of being able to say .... I told ya!

Dark was the Night is a classic. Most fans can't understand why it was left off the album. Some of Brendan's best Lyrics and the recording features spooky sax solo by Jason Cooney, from the original line up of Michaels' acclaimed Jazz combo The Java Quartet who have released four wonderful albums.

Track 3 is the opening track from Last Stop Heavenly Heights It's about having too much to drink and shooting your mouth off.

Too Many Foxes 3:04

A rollicking and rolling, funky ditty inspired by Gary Gilmour who was on death row in the book "The Executioners Song" written by Norman Mailer. His mantra just before taking the last walk was....
"GOOD THINGS COME TO ME NOW!"

"I Was Cold" also didn't make the final cut.. although it is a very stong track. The song is about being forced to sleep on the naughty couch when you misbehave, and swallowing your pride enough to get back into your warm cosey bed with the one you love. The recording features everyones favourite stringsters, Lara Goodridge and Peter Hollo from the FourPlay Electric String Quartet.

"This Tin Stardom" from the album. A spooky, haunting track about moving on when things get "too square".... featuring the great Chris Abrahams on piano

Too Many Foxes from Last Stop Heavenly Heights. The Sherrif on the trail of the Karma Countess. Funky and brooding. Nice low-fi production. Recorded in Brendans' bedroom studio.

This Is Not The Real World is a gentle loping tune about not believing what you are faced with from day to day, featuring a huge chorus of musical friends.

Kitchen Man is a cover of the classic Reels song written and condoned by Dave Mason.

"D is for Destiny" is a kick-along, lo-fi surf instrumental and "56 Days" is from Last Stop Heavenly Heights

This single was released as an Enhanced CD with a screen saver featuring all the artwork. (PC only). The Video for "Real World" featured these little cuties animated by STU.
